It’s cold outside in Louisville today– the weather has most everyone inside, bundled to keep warm. There is, however, a hot trend growing in Louisville right now: the circus arts are currently booming. With programs such as Turners Circus and CirqueLouis, the artistic community in Louisville continues to grow and expand.
Louisville is known for it’s athletic community, especially at the collegiate level, the incredible horse racing, as well as several artistic organizations, but most Louisville citizens are unaware that for over 60 years, the circus community has been growing under their noses. Turners puts on a huge circus every March with over 200 performers on apparatuses such as aerial silks (also known as tissu or fabric), lyra, trapeze, ropes, and more. They also boast strong ground arts such as juggling, acrobalancing, and fire performance.
CirqueLouis, a promising 501c3 non-profit, has already put together a stellar performance at the Mercury Ballroom and is planning several more appearances, all within 12 months of being birthed. This summer, they plan to perform at Iroquois Ampitheatre. CirqueLouis is in the process of forming a social outreach program, as well as a strong fitness program.
Speaking of fitness programs, B.You has those who are perhaps afraid of heights covered. Their fitness programs include hammock fitness, barre style classes, as well as a class designed especially for Moms. Their boutique style gym is sure to make everyone feel like a superstar even in the middle of an intense workout set!
Stay warm, Louisville– and once the roads clear, be sure to get out and explore everything Louisville has to offer!
