In our first restaurant series: breakfast, we gave you the top breakfast places in Louisville! In this next part of the series, we are going to list the top five lunch spots in the Louisville area, according to Team Panella (and other raving reviews of course)! If you’ve eaten at these restaurants, or believe we are missing out on a fabulous lunch spot, let us know in the comment section below. Make sure you head out and try some, if not all of these delicious places this great city has to offer!
Located right off Frankfort Avenue in the Crescent Hill neighborhood, Joella’s offers any type of chicken you can imagine. Joella’s owner, Tony Palombino created the restaurant as an honor to two long time employees from his parents’ restaurant named Joe and Ms. Ella. Joella’s offers southern style chicken, chicken and waffles, hot chicken, tenders, grilled chicken, and vegan chicken! You can get your chicken with no “heat” or you can go full on “heat” with their ‘FIre-in-da-Hole’ sauce. You can’t go wrong with their yummy parmesan garlic fries, kale salad, or creamy Mac and cheese! One special feature of Joella’s is that they serve Boylan hand-crafted soda, how cool is that? This summer, head on over to Joella’s hot chicken for a mouthwatering experience you won’t forget!
Coming in at number two is the one and only LouVino! This unique restaurant has locations in both the Douglas Hills neighborhood as well as the Highlands neighborhood. It is a growing restaurant that has a lot to offer. Tavis Rockwell, the Culinary director specializes in reinvented Southern-inspired dishes. He received his Culinary degree right here in Louisville and he landed his first sous chef position at just 22 years old. Some of his signature dishes include the loaded baked potato stuffed tots, chocolate beignets (very delicious), and pancake tacos! Our recommendation for lunch is to try the fried chicken tacos paired with warm brussels sprouts salad and your wine of choice (it’s a wine bar too)! You will not be disappointed with any dish you get from here!
Third on our list is Mojito Tapas! This Spanish and Latin-inspired restaurant is located just off 22 in the Brownsboro Road area. This restaurant is operated by General Manager Marcos Lorenzo and Chef Pedro Hernández, and has been in business since 2007! They believe a restaurant should be about creating memories with family while also sharing delicious food! They have a large menu with many great dishes to choose from, including their guacamole served with plantain chips, Pinchos de Pollo, chicken tacos, and their Trio de Hummus! You can’t go wrong with any selection on the menu and as a pairing, add their delicious mojito cocktail!
4. Oishii Sushi
Coming in fourth is one of the top sushi restaurants in Louisville! This sushi gem is located between the Strathmoor neighborhood and Seneca Golf Course! Oishii brings you fresh seafood from their chef’s creative combinations of fruits, spices, and sauces. They offer an unlimited variety of sushi including raw fish rolls, cooked rolls, deep fried rolls, as well as specialty rolls. We recommend the Oishii Fried Roll, the Crunch Munch Roll, or the Spicy Salmon Roll! Take some time to eat at Oishii then head on over to Seneca park for a nice stroll!
Last on our list is Taco Luchador Taquería located in the Highlands as well as their new location in the St. Matthews area! The restaurant is owned and operated by the Olé Restaurant Group, specifically Chef Fernando Martinez and his cousin, Chef Daniel Martinez. Both were born and raised in Habana, Cuba, and have significant experience in the culinary field. Taco Luchador creates a one of a kind experience for your tastebuds, that’s for sure! Some of their best dishes include their chips and guacamole, Maduros, Elite Callejeros, as well as a variety of tacos and sandwiches. Along with your food order, make sure to order their delicious sangria or Mexican beer selection! The bright colors and their welcoming outdoor seating will keep you coming back for more!
