Louisville Restaurant Series: Breakfast

Welcome to Team Panella’s blog spot! Today we are starting our restaurant series: breakfast. In these series, we are hoping to share some excellent local restaurant choices for you! Below, we have five restaurants tried and voted best by our team! If you have any other breakfast shops you would like us to try, please let us know via the comment section. We look forward to hearing from you!

    1. Noosh Nosh

First on our list is Noosh Nosh located in the Windy Hills neighborhood. Noosh Nosh was brought to you by Chef Anoosh Shariat. Chef Shariat has lived in Louisville for 29 years! Noosh Nosh only uses the freshest ingredients and serves Mediterranean style comfort food. According to Southern Living Magazine, Noosh Nosh is one of the “south’s best diners”! Great breakfast choices include the Nutella Crepe (our favorite), the vegetable frittata, and the Kentucky French toast that is smothered in Pappy Van Winkle maple syrup, YUM! Two things that distinguish Noosh Nosh from other diners is their all day Bloody Mary bar AND their all day oven named “Maria” that was imported from Italy! Head on over and get some breakfast, you won’t be disappointed!

    2. The Fish House/Cafe Beignet

Next on our list is The Fish House/Cafe Beignet! This 25 year, family owned business in the Highlands encompasses southern hospitality and a home-like atmosphere. Inside you will notice memorabilia given to the restaurant by local residents and war vets. David and Adam want you to feel like a person, not just a number. Although they have their signature ‘Green River Style’ fish, they also have a slew of breakfast items you can’t pass up! For instance, they have New Orleans style beignets that take you back to the Big Easy, who wouldn’t want that? Along with their beignets, you can add omelets, fried potatoes, or their infamous potato pancakes to your breakfast plate! To complement their delicious breakfast items, you can treat yourself with their signature Chicory coffee and an additional speciality item. This weekend, make sure you head out to The Fish House/Cafe Beignet to experience this one-of-a-kind eatery!

    3. Clifton Donut Shop

The third spot on our list is Clifton Donut Shop. This adorable donut shop located in the heart of the Clifton neighborhood offers a variety of delicious breakfast items that will keep you coming back for more! Clifton Donut Shop makes yeast as well as cake donuts. Their signature items include jalapeño ham and cheese buns, strawberry cake donut, and a TroNut! The TroNut (also considered a Cronut in N.Y.C.) is a croissant-donut invented by a pastry chef in New York City! If you are looking for something to get mom on Mother’s Day or your significant other on Valentine’s Day, you can get some heart-shaped donuts from Clifton Donut Shop to show them how much you love them! However, you don’t need a special occasion to visit this tasty donut shop!

    4. Blue Dog Bakery

In the fourth spot, sits Blue Dog Bakery! You know Blue Dog Bakery is a hot spot since it’s celebrating it’s 20th anniversary in June! This adorable bakery is located off Frankfort Ave and serves Artisan breads along with European style pastries and a full service breakfast and lunch menu! When you eat at this delicious bakery, you must try the bacon and poached egg pizza, their handcrafted loaves, and the Kouign Amann (a flaky caramelized croissant-like pastry). Once you try any of these featured items, you will for sure come back for more!

    5. Verbena Cafe

Last on our list, is Verbena Cafe! If you are looking for a more sophisticated breakfast option, head on over to Verbena Cafe located in the Norton Commons neighborhood! Verbena was developed by Mike and Laurie Cortino! The restaurant dishes are based on recipes used by restaurants owned and operated by Mike’s family in the Chicago area. Verbena has a lot of options ranging from eggs benedict to pancakes, waffles and crepes! When you head out to Verbena for a quick breakfast, make sure to try one of their egg specialty plates such as the steak and eggs, egg burrito, or the salmon hash.
